Instructions
I will be honest with you. I grew up hating all fish burgers. I never understood them and frankly always looked at them as a fraud. So, you are probably wondering how I not only get to cook this dish but also encourage you to do it.
One of our 2021 resolutions is to eat healthier, including more fish and less red meat. Regardless of our decision, we still celebrate the end of the week, preparing some kind of 'healthy-junky food.'
I have given much thought if I should make this burger or not, and in the end, I decided that one way or the other, I will make it so good that it will wipe out all of my prejudices. And that was exactly what I did. This being said, let me teach you how you can do the same.
- I recommend you use a meat grinder to grind the meat. However, if you don't have one, you can also use a food processor.
- Regardless of the tool you use, be sure you take the salmon's skin down. You don't want the skin in there.
- Along with the salmon, also grind the garlic, ginger, chili, and parsley. All these ingredients need to be extra thin. You want to feel the flavor but not their texture.
- Mix everything with egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, salt, and pepper. You want to get a very fine paste.
- Cover the bowl and put it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- While the burger mixture is resting, you can focus on the other components, such as the sauce and salsa.
- Let's first focus on the sauce. Cut the gherkins and onion as finely as possible. Mix them with the mayo, oil, and vinegar. That's it. The sauce is ready.
- Now, it's time for the salsa. Cut the avocado into cubes. Mix it with the rest of the salsa ingredients, and well, that's it again.
- Heat up a pan. If it's not a non-stick one, then add a tablespoon of olive oil, but if it's a good pan, skip the extra fat.
- With the help of a burger press, shape your burgers.
- Fry them for 3-4 minutes on each side. When there are only 2 minutes left, put the buns as well in the pan and heat them up.
- With this out of the way, your burgers are ready to be assembled.
- Spread the sauce on the lower part of each bun. Add the burgers, top them with the salsa, and close the burgers with the buns' other halves. Bon appetite!
Salmon is a great protein source. Furthermore, it is one of the best ingredients you can consume for a proper omega-3 fatty acids intake. However, try to buy salmon that comes from reliable sources.
* If you want to make the burger buns, I must admit that I don't have a recipe of my own, and frankly, I don't intend to develop one. I love Joshua Weissman's burger buns way too much to bake them in any way else. So I definitely want to recommend trying them if you're going to make your own buns.
** I strongly suggest you serve these burgers with sweet potatoes french fries.
